Median Household Income in U. S. By Race

Upon seeing a Facebook post by my dear friend Ella D. Curry, about the median salary per ethnic group, I decided this was a blog worthy topic I could contribute to, so here goes:

I mostly agree with this chart because, as someone with 30 years in human resources experience, I, like most HR folks, conduct an annual salary analysis referring to federal government websites & databases for reports and census information, and this salary summary above is almost correct in my view. I know it may be disheartening but, although more African Americans have successful businesses & more money than ever, your average working class African American is still making an, “Average” of around $50k a year.

Now, that said, they could’ve asked 5 Japanese Americans and 100k African Americans, which would make a difference in the outcome of this study showing Japanese Americans make more money per year than African Americans. However, at a glance, and considering older African Americans are still holding many blue collar positions, only recently nearing $40k salaries, averaging it out, this study seems about right.

Per 2022 US Census Bureau

There has even been a big rise of Latino salaries due to higher positions for several reasons, the need for employees from the same background to communicate with the many different non English speaking workers, more Latinos in politics assuring Latino jobs and growth, etc. People become very shocked when they see the Latino financial growth, however, many Latinos have been hard at work, educating and planning  for themselves, their kids and generations after, over the decades, here in America. That eventually results in growth in positions and in salaries.

Africans come over here from Africa but a large number from UK and other, and they have been trained and prepared for higher learning and/or higher positions in corporate, finance, science and the medical field, the same with Indians (from India) and all the other Asian groups. From many I have met, their goal is to live the American dream and send money home to help their family and community and to prepare the next generations to do the same. We have a void, they fill the void and help their families, and they are strategic in their career paths. Few are in the arts compared to US citizens.

White Americans although holding their spot in average median salary over African Americans have been surpassed by foreigners. As with African Americans, they are late to the party (meaning keeping up with or answering the needs & changes in this country in tech, finances, science and the medical field). Their infatuation with negative race relations and controversy aside, both African Americans and White Americans are so heavily in the arts, they did not quite focus on what was happening before their very eyes, or ignored it for their dream in the arts, teaching or maintaining blue collar and other skills.  To this, foreigners have been invited into the United States to answer a need in tech, science and the medical field which all pay far more than your average blue collar, corporate, teaching or artsy-fartsy jobs and career paths, so THIS is why foreigners are making far more money in their careers than White & African Americans.

Maybe this will wake America up and we will introduce our kids to tech, sciences and the medical field to help the US become more independent and self sufficient. Maybeeee, they’ll answer those outcries for positions in cyber security and science research, tech or the medical field. Maybe.
